Work cross-functionally to help grow our active user base
Working from our vibrant Copenhagen office and reporting to our Senior Engineering Manager, you will be a member of a cross-functional product development team, supporting our mission to help people enjoy wine to the fullest. This role involves developing backend services, APIs, and tools that power Vivino's functionality. For example, you might be extending a user's preference profile with an aggregation of flavor notes and their associated average rating, or optimizing the backend responsible for reverse image searching, a fascinating combination of machine learning and service orchestration challenges. You will own the entire development process, from maintaining platform health and defining group objectives, through developing, testing, and releasing, to meticulously monitoring that your contributions deliver according to expectations. We empower you to create your own implementation notes based on product specifications and encourage you to take charge of communication throughout every aspect of your work. Your success will be measured by your contributions as a member of the engagement group, helping to grow our active user base, your ability to become an integrated member of the cross-functional engagement group, and your effectiveness in delivering on the expectations for a developer within our backend chapter.

Design and implement APIs in Go or a similar technology
While we prefer not to confine anyone within rigid categories, we believe you will thrive and succeed in this position if you can effectively showcase your experience or aptitude in the various aspects outlined below.

We seek someone with proven experience in designing and implementing APIs, ideally in Go, or with a similar technology, and a strong willingness to learn Go. You should also be able to compose advanced SQL queries. While not strictly required, a background in e-commerce or marketplace platforms would be advantageous. Beyond these technical skills, we seek a Backend Engineer who brings an imaginative spark to their work, can envision new possibilities, and thinks creatively. You will benefit from an adaptable and flexible mindset that is ready to pivot and embrace change in our fast-paced environment. This role thrives on relationships, so being sociable and enjoying collaboration with diverse teams within Vivino and with external partners is key. Your conscientious nature will be a significant asset, ensuring thoroughness, accuracy, and a high standard in everything you do, from the smallest detail to the most critical project.
