Senior Backend (Go) Engineer, Copenhagen
Application deadline: April 15, 2026
Join Vivino, the world's leading community-driven e-commerce platform, powered by personalization, with over 75 million community members, as a Senior Backend Engineer in Copenhagen. Embrace the opportunity to shape the core user journeys across web and mobile for millions of passionate wine lovers by leveraging your expertise in digital consumer products.
High ownership and real influence on technical solutions and product outcomes
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Vivino, you will architect the systems powering the world's largest wine community. Sitting at the heart of our B2C engine, you will design and implement the services, APIs, and domain logic that define the user journey across web and mobile.
This is a role for a pragmatic builder who thrives in a cross-functional environment and understands that "done" means implemented thoughtfully, tested properly, monitored in production, and scaled.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role can be described as:
Design robust backend services and APIs in Go, turning product requirements into pragmatic technical solutions with clear contracts and rollout plans.
You own the full lifecycle of your code—from implementation and testing to release, monitoring, and debugging. Ensure production quality by proactively alerting and following up on incidents.
Beyond feature work, you will improve observability, reduce operational toil, and address performance bottlenecks across service boundaries to ensure our stack scales with our ambition.
Take broad or complex product requests and break them down into clear technical milestones the team can execute with confidence.
Contribute to a strong engineering culture through high-quality code reviews, thoughtful design discussions, and by helping peers with clear feedback and reusable patterns.
In your first few months, you will be fully onboarded and shipping production code. Success means becoming a trusted owner of medium- to large-scale backend initiatives, delivering work with predictable quality and clear communication. You will have measurably improved at least one area of our engineering ecosystem—whether that's reliability, performance, or rollout safety—and demonstrated the ability to use AI tools with the judgment of a senior engineer to boost throughput without sacrificing standards.
Take strong ownership of technical solutions, contribute to architecture and code quality, and help ensure reliable delivery
While we prefer not to confine anyone to rigid categories, we believe you will thrive and succeed in this position if you can effectively demonstrate your experience or aptitude across the aspects outlined below.
In this role, your impact is defined by your ability to navigate ambiguity and bring clarity to complex systems. You are the type of engineer who digs deep into the core of a challenge to identify the underlying problem before committing to a solution, ensuring that every technical choice is proportionate to the business need. You naturally bring a practical depth to your work, constantly seeking system-level insights and staying curious about how our services evolve at scale.
When faced with broad or high-level product goals, you excel at translating that intent into a concrete, executable roadmap with clear milestones that the entire team can follow. Because you understand that engineering doesn't happen in a vacuum, you are a proactive communicator who can articulate the reasoning behind backend decisions to your peers in Product and Design. You ensure everyone is aligned on the "why," making the engineers around you more effective through shared understanding and collaborative planning.
We expect you to bring several of the following strengths: If this role excites you and you believe you can contribute, we encourage you to apply.
Strong backend engineering experience, specifically designing and implementing high-performance APIs in Go.
Solid SQL skills with a sophisticated judgment for data modeling. You are experienced with service-oriented systems and comfortable debugging complex production issues.
While Go is the focus, you are comfortable stepping into adjacent backend ecosystems (such as Ruby) when the project requires it.
Proven experience shipping user-facing features at a meaningful scale. Backgrounds in engagement, conversion, or purchase journeys are highly prioritized.
A track record of making the engineers around you better through high-quality code reviews, collaborative planning, and creating shared improvements.
You have a modern workflow that uses AI tools to increase throughput and quality while maintaining a senior-level bar for correctness, security, and maintainability.
